CHS was established in 1979 by the late Dr. Antoine N. Houaiss in his childhood home in Mreijeh. Dr. Houaiss, a dedicated educator, poet, and writer, envisioned a school that would foster academic excellence and instill strong ethical values in its students. His commitment to education and community development led him to serve as the school's president and principal until his passing in 2020, shaping the lives of countless students and promoting a culture of learning and resilience in the region.
Establishing the CHS in his hometown in 1979, he aimed to perpetuate his legacy of selfless teaching and contribute to the national education landscape.
A passionate writer, he dedicated his books to friends, acquaintances and supporters, distributing them to major libraries in Lebanon and abroad. His literary works, totaling more than seventeen books, reflect his deep-rooted attachment to knowledge and his commitment to its dissemination. His love for literature led to the creation of his personal library at home and the establishment of a rich library at CHS, open to all seeking knowledge, including students under his tutelage.
Dr. Houaiss was a thinker whose scholarly reflections intertwined with the societal issues of his time, offering profound insights with a humane perspective. As a native of Burj el-Barajneh, he epitomized coexistence, unity, and commitment to the national cause amid various threats faced by his resilient community.
He aspired to nurture a free, conscious, educated, peaceful, and secular society rooted in heritage, geared towards progress within a unified, independent, democratic, and interactive homeland under absolute sovereignty.
CHS in Mreijeh serves as a testament to success, having been established in 1979 by Dr. Antoine Nasri Houaiss. Upon his return from Paris, Dr. Houaiss turned his dream into reality with steadfast support from his father. Transforming his familial residence in Mreijeh into an educational institution, his goal was to provide the children of his hometown with an education infused with love and awareness. Functioning not only as an educator but also as a nurturing father figure, Dr. Houaiss devoted himself to his students as their mentor and director.
Even in the present day, CHS stands as a symbol of excellence in education, offering a comprehensive curriculum and a diverse array of extracurricular activities. The school continues to evolve in line with modern educational practices, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience that equips students for the challenges of the future.
